Meir Kryger, MD, a Professor Emeritus at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut shares insights from his article appearing in an upcoming issue of MCP: DH, where he and the authors evaluated the accuracy of a ring oximeter’s measurement of oxyhemoglobin saturation compared with a medical grade arterial blood gas analyzer in black and non-black subjects. Dr. Kryger concludes that the validation study results confirmed that Circul+ oximetry accuracy seems to be independent of skin tone, most likely because measurements are made on the palmar surface of the hand, where there is generally less pigment.
