This report examines Russian and Ukrainian improvised explosive initiation systems, focusing on the Russian MAG-3 magnetic sensor device and Ukraine’s Djonik- and Verba-based designs. It outlines technical features such as adjustable arming delays, magnetic sensing, and self-destruct mechanisms, and highlights Russian adaptations like the “Banderol/Privet” devices for drones and unconventional items. The analysis underscores the increasing sophistication of improvised initiation technologies and their operational challenges for EOD and counter-IED teams.
